We'll learn how to set up mics for acoustic instruments (guitars, piano, vocals, etc.)
Use the large silver Shure KSM27 in the Studio and the large Shure KSM32 mic for a vocalist or an acoustic instrument.
Record one acoustic instrument at a time to prevent bleed over from one track into another track
Try to always use a click or basic drum track track for instrumentalists - so that you can more easily edit and add other instruments
Always use a backing track for vocals - usually a previously recorded drum, bass and piano/guitar is enough for a vocalist
Background singers should be recorded individually and separately if possible.
Always use closed-back headphones to prevent bleed over from the headphones into the mic.
In the Studio, always plug the mic into Box 2.3 and set your Pro Tools Session track input to Box 2.3 because then the talent can control their "mix" in their headphones using the Hear Back module by adjusting knob #3 for more or less of their own voice and the "Stereo 1-2" knob for more or less of the backing track.
In the Isobooth, simply adjust the volumes of vocal and backing track directly in the edit/mix window.
