Submitting your Digital Art for the Web Archives
All student work needs to be submitted for posting on the web so that you have a wider audience for your work beyond the exhibitions and for an archive of all student work through the years.

To properly create your Self Portrait Diptych large and thumbnail versions for the web archives (such as these ones in 2011, 2010, and 2009), please follow these instructions:
- In Finder, make a duplicate of your final Photoshop Diptych file by right clicking on the file and choosing Duplicate.
- In Finder sidebar go to your Home > Documents, create a new folder and label it "For Web Archives". Move your newly duplicated Photoshop file into your new folder.
- Then rename the duplicate file p1diptych-UsernamE.psd - NO NICKNAMES! - use the username that you use everyday to login to your account!
- Then inside the "For Web Archives", create two new folders with one renamed as "Big versions" and the other renamed as "Thumbnails".
- Open the newly named file p1diptych-UsernamE.psd with Photoshop.
- In Photoshop, go to Image > Mode > RBG Color (for web because CMYK is for printing)
- In Photoshop, go to Image > Image Size and with all the boxes checked at the bottom of the window, change the Pixel Dimensions > Height to 800 pixels (the width will change proportionally) so that we get a file small enough to view on the web instead of huge file for printing.
- Save the file with Command + S. After all the steps below, do NOT save the file.
- In Photoshop, go to File > Save for Web
- In the next window at the top right, choose for Preset: JPG Maximum (or change the Quality slide near the top right to 100) so we get the best quality image of your work.
- Near the bottom right, change the Quality to Bicubic Sharper (instead of default Bicubic). The height should be 800 pixels already.
- Click on Save at the bottom middle.
- Navigate to the Home > Documents > For Web Archives > Big Versions folder and click on save. A .jpg version will be created and saved there with the same file name as the .psd file.
- Now we will create a thumbnail version of the same file. In Photoshop, go to to Image > Image Size and and with all the boxes checked at the bottom of the window, change the Pixel Dimensions > Height to 57 pixels (the width will change proportionally).
- In Photoshop, go to File > Save for Web
- In the next window at the top right, choose for Preset: JPG Maximum (or change the Quality slide to 100).
- Click on Save at the bottom right.
- Navigate to the Home > Documents > For Web Archives > Thumbnails folder and click on save. A .jpg version will be created and saved there with the same file name as the .psd file.
- Close the Photoshop file but do NOT save so that you'll have the large version still.
To properly create your Character Portrait large and thumbnail versions for the web archives (such as these from 2010), please follow these instructions:
- In Finder, make a duplicate of your final Photoshop Character Portrait file by right clicking on the file and choosing Duplicate.
- In Finder sidebar go to your Home > Documents, create a new folder and label it "For Web Archives". Move your newly duplicated Photoshop file into your new folder, then rename the duplicate file Portrait-UsernamE-.psd - NO NICKNAMES! - use the username that you use everyday to login to your account!
- Then inside the "For Web Archives", create two new folders with one renamed as "Big versions" and the other renamed as "Thumbnails".
- Open the newly named file p5portrait-UsernamE.psd with Photoshop.
- In Photoshop, go to Image > Mode > RBG Color (for web because CMYK is for printing)
- In Photoshop, go to Image > Image Size and with all the boxes checked at the bottom of the window, change the Pixel Dimensions > Height to 1000 pixels (the width will change proportionally) so that we get a file small enough to view on the web instead of huge file for printing.

- Now go to File > Revert to change the .psd back to the larger original size.
- In Photoshop, go to Image > Image size - if your image is NOT already 1500 x 1000 pixels OR if your image is in Portrait mode (taller than wide), the please also do the following
- Next we have to make the large version of the image but with black bars on the sides to better fit onto the website. In Photoshop, go to Image > Canvas size and change the units to Pixels. Change the width to 1500 Pixels. For the Anchor grid, choose the middle square.
- Also choose Black for Canvas Extension Color and click on OK at the top right. (If you can't choose Black for the canvas, create a new layer at the very bottom of your Layers pane, select that Layerl and add an Adjustment Layer > Solid Color of black. You should now have black bars on the left and right of the photo.
- In Photoshop, go to File > Save for Web
- In the next window at the top right, choose for Preset: JPG High and then change the Quality slide near the top right to 100 so we get the best quality image of your work.
- Near the bottom right, change the Quality to Bicubic Sharper (instead of default Bicubic). The height should be 1000 pixels and width 1500 pixels.
- Click on Save at the bottom middle.
- Navigate to the Home > Documents > For Web Archives > Big Versions folder and click on save. A .jpg version will be created and saved there with the same file name as the .psd file.
- Close the Photoshop file but do NOT save so that you'll have the large version without black bars.

- ONLY if your resulting Big Version .jpg file is in Portrait mode (taller than wide), please also do the following:
- We have to slightly adjust the Big Version for the web in Photoshop. So in Photoshop, go open the Home > Documents > For Web Archives > Big Versions > p1illustration-UsernamE.jpg file.
- Go to Image > Canvas size and change the units to Pixels. Change the width to 1500 Pixels.
- Also choose Black for Canvas Extension Color and click on OK at the top right. You should now have black bars on the left and right of the photo.
- Now simply Save the file with Command + S.
To properly create your Comic Strip Illustration large and thmbnail versions for the web archives, please follow these instructions:
- In Finder, make a duplicate of your final Comic Strip Illustrator file by right clicking on the file and choosing Duplicate.
- In Finder sidebar go to your Home > Documents, create a new folder (if you haven't already done this) and label it "For Web Archives". Move your newly duplicated Comic Strip Illustrator file into your new folder, then rename the duplicate file Comic-UsernamE.ai - NO NICKNAMES! - use the username that you use everyday to login to your account!
- Then inside the "For Web Archives", create two new folders (if you haven't already done this) with one renamed as "Big versions" and the other renamed as "Thumbnails".
- Open the newly named .ai file with Illustrator.
- In Illustrator, go to File > Document Color Mode > RBG Color (for web because CMYK is for printing)
- Save the file with Command + S. After all the steps below, do NOT save the file.

To properly create your Narrative Diptych large and thumbnail versions for the web archives (such as these ones in 2010 and 2009), please follow these instructions:

- Then inside the "For Web Archives", create two new folders with one renamed as "Big versions" and the other renamed as "Thumbnails".

- Also choose Black for Canvas Extension Color and click on OK at the top right. You should now have black bars on the left and right of the photo.
- Now simply Save the file with Command + S.
To properly create a thumbnail and a pdf of single pages of your Documentary Book so that we can put on the school website on this example page, please follow these instructions:
After watching the video instructions below, you will submit in Ms. Parkinson's Junior Drop Box > zFor Web Archives > Documentary Book PDFs files like this:
- Firstname_Lastname.jpg (height=75px)
- Firstname_Lastname.pdf (one pdf of your cover and interior pages with NO SPREADS)

You should by now know how to use Photoshop or Preview to do the following:
Submit in Ms. Parkinson's JUNIOR Dropbox > zFor Web Archives > BIG Version folder
- A photo .jpg of your completed Design Experimental project
- Photo dimensions:
- landscape - 1000 px wide and proportional height
- portrait - 1000 px wide with additional 250 pixels of black on left and right (In Photoshop, first change the image size to 1000 px wide and then change the canvas size to 1500 px with a black background.)
- Filename: Exp-UsernamE.jpg
Submit in Ms. Parkinson's JUNIOR Dropbox > zFor Web Archives > Thumbnails folder
- A photo .jpg thumbnail of your completed Design Experimental project
- Photo dimensions: height = 57px
- Filename: ExpT-UsernamE.jpg (T for thumbnail)

To properly create a thumbnail and a pdf of single pages of your Blink Book so that we can put on the school website on this example page, please follow these instructions:
After watching the video instructions below, you will submit in Ms. Parkinson's Senior Drop Box > zFor Web Archives > Book PDFs files like this:
- Firstname_Lastname.jpg (height=75px)
- Firstname_Lastname.pdf (one pdf of your cover and interior pages with NO SPREADS)

You should by now know how to use Photoshop or Preview to do the following:
Submit in Ms. Parkinson's SENIOR Dropbox > zFor Web Archives > BIG Version folder
- A photo .jpg of your completed Design Experimental project
- Photo dimensions:
- landscape - 1000 px wide and proportional height
- portrait - 1000 px wide with additional 250 pixels of black on left and right (In Photoshop, first change the image size to 1000 px wide and then change the canvas size to 1500 px with a black background.)
- Filename: Exp-UsernamE.jpg
Submitting the TWO files with the exact same file name.
- Now submit the files by going to Ms. P's Junior DropBox. Look for a "zFor Web Archives" folder in her DropBox at the bottom. In the "zFor Web Archives" folder, there is a "Big Versions" and "Thumbnails" folder.
- Drag the newly created .jpg from YOUR Big Versions folder into the zFor Web Archives > Big Versions folder in Ms. P's Drop Box. (Don't drag the folder, just the .jpg file). Check that the file you submitted into the Drop Box folder is NOT 0 kB because that means it was not submitted properly - you can't have the file OPEN while submitting which causes this problem.
- Drag the newly created .jpg from YOUR Thumbnails folder into the zFor Web Archives > Thumbnails folder in Ms. P's Drop Box. (Don't drag the folder, just the .jpg file). Check that the file you submitted into the Drop Box folder is NOT 0 kB because that means it was not submitted properly - you can't have the file OPEN while submitting which causes this problem.
- If you see the files in the Drop Box folders, you have submitted it.
- Your Artist statement will be posted along with your artwork online. So if you haven't done so already, submit your Artist Statement by going to http://www.freestyle.mvla.net/submitAS.html
